A Foundation for Success
According to Jody Dickter, the new Director of the Sam Field Center’s Early Childhood Education Center, hands-on learning is key to engagement and education. Jody has spent the last 30 years as an early childhood teacher and then director, working with families and our youngest students to build a sense of community and develop a love for learning. Before joining Commonpoint Queens, Jody spent time with All My Children Daycare and Nursery and at Positive Beginnings.
Jody will be overseeing enriching programs for children ages 2-4, including 3-K and Pre-K For All, which are free for New York City residents. Classes are led by experienced teaching staff that meets all New York State certification requirements and are focused on meeting the needs of all children and families across a wide range of backgrounds, religions, and special needs. Extended care options are also available with drop-off as early as 7:30 am and pick-up as late as 6:00 pm.
We are also excited to share that the Sam Field Center will be launching a new full-day Infant Care program for families with children ages 3-24 months this Fall!
“I love the supportive and friendly environment here at Commonpoint Queens,” Jody said. “On my first day, so many people stopped by my office to introduce themselves which says a lot about what a special place this agency is. Everyone has the common goal of how we can help people and the community around us.”
“What I believe is so important is the teacher saying, ‘Okay class, what are we going to learn today?’” Jodie says enthusiastically. This gives children the voice to decide how they learn, and the power to take charge of initiating their learning.
Jody looks forward to involving parents in their children’s education. “Parent involvement is something that means a lot. Maybe something creative — parents Zooming in to read a story to the class …it’ll just be touching base with a learning community centered around friendship.”
