Commonpoint Queens Hires New Director of Special Services

Lisa Armband Senior Director of Special Services

Commonpoint Queens is excited to announce that Lisa Armband has joined the team as the Senior Director of Special Services.

Lisa has over thirty years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities. Prior to Commonpoint Queens, Lisa worked at Catholic Charities in Brooklyn for twenty-seven years in various programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. She then transitioned to working in compliance and quality assurance as the Director of Quality Assurance for the Block Institute of Brooklyn and Birch Family Services in Manhattan. Although she has previously worked in day and residential programs with adults with developmental disabilities, she is looking forward to taking that passion to working with children and teenagers in a more community-based setting.

“We are very happy to welcome Lisa to the team at Commonpoint Queens. Lisa comes to us with more than 30 years of experience as a champion and advocate for people with developmental disabilities. Her passion and desire to make a positive difference in the lives of all those under her watch makes her the perfect addition to our staff,” said Mitch Karpp, Associate Vice President, Youth Education Services.

Lisa has a Masters in Special Education from Adelphi University. She is a proud Long Island native and parent of an adult daughter and dog.

She shared, “ I have seen how difficult things can be for parents who do not have a safe place to send their children. I am looking forward to seeing what community needs are and how we can be innovative in meeting them in our new normal. I am excited to join the Commonpoint Queens family and make lifelong friends!”

Commonpoint Queens is proud to offer programs specifically designed to meet the social, emotional, educational, and recreational needs of children with developmental disabilities ages 5-21. This includes after school, summer camp, sports, and school holiday programs for children and teenagers in Little Neck, Forest Hills, and Bayside.
