Hygiene and cleaning supplies donated by the Towers at Water’s Edge

Food Pantry Donation

Commonpoint Queens thanks the residents and management of the Towers at Water’s Edge for collecting hundreds of hygiene and cleaning supplies to distribute through Commonpoint Queens’ four food pantries.

Commonpoint Queens volunteer and Water’s Edge resident, Bruce Misher spearheaded the effort. Misher said, “We know the need is tremendous and the minute I mentioned the collection to John Monteforte, President Seville Board of Directors, Gregg Randell, President Versailles Board of Directors, and Ira Kaye, President Americana Board of Directors they immediately said, absolutely! The outpouring of support was incredible with hundreds of items donated. It’s nice to live in a place where the people care about their community and give back.”

Commonpoint Queens CEO, Danielle Ellman said, “Our partners at Met Council and UJA Federation of New York, and New York City provide us with the food we need to distribute to our community.  However, according to USDA regulations, items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, sponges, cleanser, etc. cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. Because of this, many families cannot afford to purchase the most basic of necessities. We are very grateful to the individuals and communities like the Towers at Water’s Edge for their generosity in helping our most vulnerable.”

Commonpoint Queens’ food pantries are barrier-free, dignified spaces for people experiencing food insecurity. Clients can order their groceries using our digital system and make an appointment to pick-up their package. This is a huge help to working families who now do not need to take off time from work to receive their food.
