LILAC was founded in March to raise money for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for healthcare and community organizations on Long Island and surrounding areas. To date, LILAC has raised over $61,000 through a GoFundMe campaign. In addition to Commonpoint Queens, LILAC has assisted Nassau Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Hempstead, American Legion Post 962 of Locust Valley, Excel at Woodbury for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and many more local organizations.

Created by 14 year-old Syosset High School freshman Sabrina Guo, LILAC is an entirely student-run organization with members from high schools across Long Island, as well as outside of New York. Guo is a student journalist from Oyster Bay Cove who is also the founder of nonprofit Girl Pride and an award-winning writer.

We thank LILAC for their generous donation and Representative Suozzi for his continued support of Commonpoint Queens. If you or a student you know is interested in getting involved with LILAC, please visit their website.

We are also grateful for the NY1 team for reporting on this donation in their Around the Boroughs segment. You can see this coverage in the video below:

Thank you NY1 for your support and for featuring LILAC’s work in the news!⠀ ⠀ This past Friday we were covered by the “Around the Boroughs” segment on Spectrum News NY1, a channel which provides 24-hour news coverage with a focus on the five boroughs of New York City. They featured LILAC’s work at the Commonpoint Queens community, where we donated 1,000 masks and 500 hand sanitizers with US Representative Tom Suozzi! ⠀ ⠀ Commonpoint Queens is a community organization dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the quality of individual, family and communal life throughout Queens, through services to people of all ages, ability levels, stages of life and backgrounds. ⠀ ⠀ They do amazing work in supporting inner city youth working to help their communities. And, one case of large bottles of hand sanitizers will be used by the SYEP, the Summer Youth Employment Program, to allow our young campers learn and play in a safer environment!⠀⠀ ⠀ Thanks to all our donors, supporters, and members who make all of the work we do in our community possible! We look forward to continuing to impact our community, and are humbled and encouraged by all of the folks reaching out to us. This recent news feature is only a testament to the great work all of us can do together! Thinking of contributing to our cause? Check out our GoFundMe page in our bio, and please continue spreading the word! ⠀ ⠀ And, if you are a student who would like to become a member, check out our LinkTree to fill out a Google Form for entry!⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #corona #coronavirus #lilac #lilacovid19 #lilac19 #PPE #standtogether #nyc #hospitalcrisis #covid_19 #covıd19 #covid #coronavirus #covidnyc #covidlongisland #unite #donate #gofundme #syosset #hospital #longisland #andrewcuomo #studentmovement #combatcorona #thankyou #healthheroes #syostrong
