Queens, NY — As the coronavirus pandemic battered the Queens and Western Nassau County communities suffering illnesses, loss of life, and unemployment, Commonpoint Queens turned to their partners at UJA-Federation of New York. They responded by creating an Emergency Cash Assistance Program (ECAP) to support community members in need.

Over the course of 14 weeks, Commonpoint Queens provided cash grants to 669 households representing more than 2,040 individuals who demonstrated loss of employment due to COVID-19.

“I am 42-years-old, married with two children. I was furloughed on March 23rd. My unemployment claim is pending and we haven’t received anything from unemployment after a month of countless calls and emails to the Department of Labor. Even when the unemployment benefits kick in, our income won’t be any near what I earned at my job. It’s the things we used to take for granted like camp for my kids and having enough food in the refrigerator to not worry about grabbing a snack. Thank you very much for your help. For us, this will be of great help.  Thank you very much and may God bless you!!”

“I am 69-years-old and my husband died from COVID-19. I am also a cancer patient and can’t work because of my compromised immune system. Without my husband’s salary, I am struggling financially and mentally – I couldn’t even see him at the end. Your assistance programs have helped in so many ways. Thank you, I didn’t know what I would do without you.”

“Thank you so much, you don’t know how much this means to my family and me!! God Bless You and Your Organization.” K.M.

“Thank you very much. I appreciate your great help. This will help me with my rent. What else can I say thank you very much May G-d bless you.”

“Oh my gosh!!!! Thank you so much for the great news! I can’t express how much I am grateful!!!! We haven’t had good luck financially and been struggling. Don’t get me wrong we’ve been helped for pantries from Commonpoint Queens and local places that we always greatly appreciate. But we never thought this huge support would come to us!!! Thank you, thank you so much for your kind deed and generosity. We will remember you as a bright and warm light in our hearts for the rest of our lives.

Again, thank you so much. We wish you the very best. Please be safe and stay well.”

“Praise God! Thank you so much, you have no idea as to how much this really means to me and my daughter. This will surely help is out in so many ways. I just can’t believe it. Now I can pay my bills and get some personal items for myself and my daughter. This is truly overwhelming just when I thought Hope was lost and here you are stepped in right on time. Blessings to you and the rest of your staff. Stay and keep safe. Thank you!”
