Sleep and Sleep Disorders: Practice Considerations

According to estimates by the Sleep Foundation, 50 million to 70 million people in the US have ongoing sleep disorders. Insomnia, night terrors, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, nightmares, failure to have adequate rest, among others, have consequences for individuals of all ages, members of their families, and the wider society. This course will define specific disorders, the relationship between sleep disorders and substance abuse, and the role of trauma. Dr. Ganzer will specifically address the role of prescribed medication, over the counter medication, and herbal remedies. Practice suggestions, including the use of sleep histories, sleep routines, and elements of CBT related interventions will be discussed.
