The neighborhood Jewish deli is a culinary and cultural institution, a wonderland of amazing flavors and delicious food—bright, buttery, briny, sweet, fatty, salty, smoky—as well as a center of tradition, innovation, and celebration.

Artist Ben Nadler pays tribute to this beloved gastronomic destination in The Jewish Deli: An Illustrated Guide to the Chosen Food which takes an illustrated comic-style approach to the subject. Nadler explores the history, spotlights foundational foods and scrumptious side with details on how they are made, and interviews proprietors of some of the best-known delis one can visit today. From bagels to bialys, kugels to knishes, corned beef to caviar, multiple uses for matzo, hamantaschen to halvah—and top it off with a refreshing egg cream—The Jewish Deli will leave you entertained, enlightened and very hungry.
