Program Highlights
The Beacon Program at M.S. 158 is a school-based Community Center, funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
For the better part of the last three decades, the Beacon program has been a safe place after school, on weekends, and even during the summer for people of all ages to come for nurturing and enriching programs. This program has a rich history of hosting basketball tournaments and programs for young people all across New York City and Long Island, including the most competitive high school tournaments in the country!
Beacon child care programs operate during after school hours, summer vacation and on weekends and holidays, providing a wide range of services and activities for children and their families. Beacon After School Care Programs include Basketball, Tae Kwon Do, Individual and Family Counseling, Vocational and School to Work programs, Dance, Drama, Chess, Computer, Homework Club, Academic Tutorials, Youth Councils, Tennis, Video Production. Adult and Senior programs vary but have included Computer lessons, Stress Reduction, Parent Support Groups, American Sign Language, Chess and more as part of a comprehensive menu of activities for all ages and interests.
