Facility Highlights

As of July 1, 2018, Commonpoint Queens has been operating senior programs out of the North Flushing Senior Center, which has locations at Linden Towers and at the Knights of Columbus on College Point Boulevard in Flushing.

NFSC has been a staple for older adult programming in Queens for over three decades, prioritizing socialization and healthy living with programs like aerobics, card games, lunch, arts and so much more!

Arts & Culture

Art with Rachel 学手工美术

  • Tue 10:45 – 11:30 AM
  • Instructor – Rachel Emproto
  • Explore arts and crafts through a variety of fun projects.

Listen and Sing 听歌唱歌

  • Thu 10:45 – 11:30 AM
  • Facilitator – Jimmy Chuang
  • Listen and sing Karaoke to your favorites.

Sing Karaoke 卡拉OK大家唱

  • Fri 2:00 – 3:30 PM
  • Facilitator – Peter Chu
  • Have fun singing karaoke in multiple languages.


Bingo 宾果游戏

Friday Afternoon at the Movies 周五电影

  • Fri 12:15 – 2:00 PM
  • Enjoy a movie & popcorn. $1 suggested donation.

Knit and Crochet 编织和钩针

  • Mon 12:30 – 2:00 PM Facilitators – Evelyn Hurr & Carol Bouba
  • All level knitters and crocheters are welcome to participate in this group.
  • Needles and yarn are provided, along with instruction and guidance as needed.

Health & Wellness

Aerobics 有氧运动

  • Friday 10:15 – 11:00 AM
  • Instructor – Gail Freeman
  • Easy to follow dance aerobics for cardio health, followed by chair exercise.

New! Blood Pressure Monitoring 血压测量

  • Wed 12:30 – 1:00 PM
  • Hospital Corpsman – Roberta Goldenberg
  • Monitor and track your blood pressure and identify any changes over time.

Broadway Stretch 百老汇音乐健身操

  • Tue 10:00 – 10:45 AM
  • Instructor – Gail Freeman
  • Chair exercises routine with familiar music from Broadway and TV shows, including arms/legs/stomach/back movements for flexibility and strength.

Chair Yoga 椅上瑜伽

  • Wed 10:00 – 10:45 AM
  • Instructor – Karen Johnston
  • A chair-based yoga class consisting of seated centering and warm up, followed by standing behind the chair or aside the chair to perform yoga poses appropriate for the senior population.

Line Dance 广场舞

  • Thu 12:30 – 1:15 PM
  • Instructor- Gail Freeman
  • Simple to follow dance routines so all members are able to participate and feel comfortable while having lots of fun.

Senior Fitness/Aerobics 银发有氧锻炼

  • Mon 10:15 – 11:00 AM
  • Instructor – Karen Johnston
  • Join a chair-supported fitness/aerobics class consisting of a seated warm up, strengthening exercises for all the major muscles in the body using free weights and a ball, followed by aerobic exercise standing behind the chair.

New! Tai Chi 太极

  • Tue 12:30 – 1:15 PM
  • Instructor – Elaine Fleishman
  • In this traditional Chinese form of exercise, basic positions are performed in a slow, continuous sequence. The graceful movements of Tai Chi emphasize relaxation, straightness, and true balance.

New! Wai Tan Kung 外丹功

  • Thu 10:00 – 10:45 AM
  • Instructor – Jimmy Chuang
  • An ancient Chinese exercise that is unique due to its use of whole-body trembling and coordinated movements. Deep and slow breathing and mental concentration are required to achieve harmony between the body and the mind.

Social Support & Discussion Groups

“Let’s Talk” Discussion Group

  • Wed 10:45 – 11:30 AM (except the 2nd Weds)
  • Facilitator- Roberta Goldenberg
  • Join this lively discussion group with specific topics and/or as a chat or social time. The topics can range from memories about historic events during our lifetime, favorite foods growing up, etc.

“Sharing Life Experiences” Discussion Group/Sing-Along

  • Every 2nd Wed 10:45 – 11:30 AM
  • Facilitators – Anthony & Andrea Nemia
  • Meet once a month and share your life experiences. A member’s life story will be told at this once-a-month discussion group, followed by telling jokes and a sing-along.


Smart Phone Workshop

  • Mon 11:00 – 11:40 AM (中文智能手机/conducted in Chinese)
