Adult and Senior Fitness in Bayside

Exercise is important for all age groups, but particularly for adults 65 and over. We offer classes to help enhance the lives of our senior adult community members.

The Health & Wellness Department is dedicated to the health, physical and social development of all members. Our pre-school, nursery and junior sports programs are designed to coordinate eye-hand, eye-foot, gross and fine motor and balance skills. Our adult and senior program is designed to keep those involved in shape and up-to-date on proper exercise and nutrition information.

Socialization, working at your own pace and having fun in a safe environment are the main goals of the department. Our staff is professionally trained to enhance the individual development of all who participate. We are proud to offer a well-rounded program for ALL AGES. You are never too old to exercise!

Chair Aerobics/Broadway Stretch with Gail
Mondays 9:30-10:15 AM
Enjoy gentle exercise geared to increasing muscle strength and range of motion at your own pace while sitting.

Senior Cardio with Robin
Tuesdays 10:00-10:45 AM
This aerobics class is safe, heart healthy and gentle on the joints. It includes easy to follow low impact movement, upper body strengthening, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your lifestyle.

Tai Chi for Arthritis with Elaine
Thursdays 1:15-2:15 PM
In this traditional Chinese form of exercise, basic positions are performed in a slow, continuous sequence. Unlike exercise which relies on muscular force and tension, the graceful movements of Tai Chi emphasize relaxation, straightness, and true balance

Zumba Gold with Sheila
Fridays 9:00-9:45 AM
A Latin-dance inspired workout accessible for seniors regardless of fitness level.

SilverSneakers SilverSplash Senior Swim

The senior swim program is a 3-day per week indoor swim program for seniors only. Open swim time is provided at the Bay Club on Bay Club Drive, Bayside, 9:30 AM -12:30 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, October through May. This is a SilverSneakers program or a fee based program for those who do not qualify. Please call Eileen at (718) 423-6111 for further information.

Want to be more physically active? Interested in trying an exercise class? Bored, and need a reason to get out?

There are always a number of reasons to pursue a healthier lifestyle, and if you live in the Bay Terrace area, we’re giving you a great one!

Beginning Fall 2018, we offer a SilverSneakers/Optum Classic Aerobics exercise class at the Bay Terrace Center. This class offers a variety of exercises using specially designed equipment which will increase strength, range of movement, and muscular strength. A chair can be provided to participants who would feel more comfortable sitting down or using it for balance.

SilverSneakers is a free fitness program provided by dozens of insurance plans. 1 in 5 people 65 and older are eligible.

Lifeguard & WSI Certification at the Bay Terrace Center

The Bay Terrace Center has staff that are Red Cross certified instructors in Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instruction. The courses will be offered throughout the year and can be done at the Bay Terrace Pool & Tennis Center or at your site. Please call Craig Lastres at (646) 772-3784 for further information.
