The Health & Wellness Department is dedicated to the health, physical and social development of all members. Our pre-school, nursery and junior sports programs are designed to coordinate eye-hand, eye-foot, gross and fine motor and balance skills. Our adult and senior program is designed to keep those involved in shape and up-to-date on proper exercise and nutrition information.
Socialization, working at your own pace and having fun in a safe environment are the main goals of the department. Our staff is professionally trained to enhance the individual development of all who participate. We are proud to offer a well-rounded program for ALL AGES. You are never too old to exercise!
For the week of January 16, Tai Chi, Tuesday’s Balance, Senior Line Dancing, Senior Stretch, Aerobic Dance, Silver Sneakers Senior Aerobics , and Silver Sneakers Zumba Gold will only be held virtually.
While all of our classes will continue to be offered virtually (with the exception of Thursday’s Balance class and our new Pilates program), many classes will also take place at Sam Field. Space is limited and pre-registration with Fern at 718-225-6750 ext. 233 is required for in-person classes.

Zumba Gold – A Latin-dance inspired workout accessible for seniors regardless of fitness level

Tai Chi – In this traditional Chinese form of exercise, basic positions are performed in a slow, continuous sequence. Unlike exercise which relies on muscular force and tension, the graceful movements of Tai Chi emphasize relaxation, straightness, and true balance.

SilverSneakers Senior Aerobics – Chair assisted group exercise focuses on increasing muscular strength, endurance and range of movement to improve activities for daily living. Customized for adults 65 years or older and for individuals declared Medicare disabled. Sponsored by Oxford Medicare Advantage and Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield.

Senior Circuit – Increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Exercise equipment is provided. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

**We’d also like to advise our senior exercise members to note their surroundings before participating in our classes. We are working to provide age-appropriate classes, including Silver Sneakers classes, but ask for you to please use extreme caution, make sure that you are not having balance difficulties before being active, and that you have a stable ground below you if you are exercising.
