The Health & Wellness Department is dedicated to the health, physical and social development of all members. Our pre-school, nursery and junior sports programs are designed to coordinate eye-hand, eye-foot, gross and fine motor and balance skills. Our adult and senior program is designed to keep those involved in shape and up-to-date on proper exercise and nutrition information.
Socialization, working at your own pace and having fun in a safe environment are the main goals of the department. Our staff is professionally trained to enhance the individual development of all who participate. We are proud to offer a well-rounded program for ALL AGES. You are never too old to exercise!
Senior Fitness
Starting Monday, June 26, the following exercise class times will change:
Senior Circuit with Karen (Mondays) – class time will move to 1:30pm
Yoga on the Mat with Robin (Mondays) – class time will move to 2:30pm
Aerobics and More with Gail (Thursdays at 9:15am) – class time will stay the same but class will move to virtual only
Meditation and Reiki with Lori (Thursdays, in person only) – class time will move to 1:30pm
Pre-registration for in person classes at Bay Terrace is required by calling Elise at 718-423-611 ext. 223. Pre-registration with Wendy at 718 225-6750 ext. 236 is required for in-person classes at Sam Field. For virtual classes, click on the link to register.

Classic Aerobics – A variety of exercises using specially designed equipment will increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activities of daily living. A chair is available if needed

Tai Chi – In this traditional Chinese form of exercise, basic positions are performed in a slow, continuous sequence. Unlike exercise which relies on muscular force and tension, the graceful movements of Tai Chi emphasize relaxation, straightness, and true balance.
*Please note Tai Chi is currently being offered virtually Tuesdays at 9am via Zoom and at Sam Field, and Wednesdays at 9am via Zoom and at Bay Terrace
Strength Training for Better Balance – Maintain joint range of motion and flexibility with gentle exercises for every part of the body. Increasing your core strength for better balance.

Aerobics and More – Fun and fitness for beginner and more experienced dancers.

Yoga Stretch – Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of motion.

Senior Circuit – Increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Exercise equipment is provided. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

Classic Exercise – Chair assisted group exercise focuses on increasing muscular strength, endurance and range of movement to improve activities for daily living. Customized for adults 65 years or older and for individuals declared Medicare disabled. Sponsored by Oxford Medicare Advantage and Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield.

Yoga on the Mat – Perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of motion.

**We’d also like to advise our senior exercise members to note their surroundings before participating in our classes. We are working to provide age-appropriate classes, but ask for you to please use extreme caution, make sure that you are not having balance difficulties before being active, and that you have a stable ground below you if you are exercising.
