The Physical Education & Recreation Department is dedicated to the health, physical and social development of all members. Our pre-school, nursery and junior sports programs are designed to coordinate eye-hand, eye-foot, gross and fine motor and balance skills. Our adult and senior program is designed to keep those involved in shape and up-to-date on proper exercise and nutrition information.
Socialization, working at your own pace and having fun in a safe environment are the main goals of the department. Our staff is professionally trained to enhance the individual development of all who participate. We are proud to offer a well-rounded program for ALL AGES. You are never too old to exercise!
NEW FOR FALL 2018 – SilverSneakers Program at Bay Terrace Center
Want to be more physically active? Interested in trying an exercise class? Bored, and need a reason to get out?
There are always a number of reasons to pursue a healthier lifestyle, and if you live in the Bay Terrace area, we’re giving you a great one!
Beginning on Tuesday, October 23rd, we’ll be offering a SilverSneakers/Optum Classic Aerobics exercise class at the Bay Terrace Center This class offers a variety of exercises using specially designed equipment which will increase strength, range of movement, and muscular strength. A chair can be provided to participants who would feel more comfortable sitting down or using it for balance.
SilverSneakers is a free fitness program provided by dozens of insurance plans. 1 in 5 people 65 and older are eligible.

Monday from 6:15 to 7:15 PM – 10 week sessions – $80 for all 10 weeks
Stay in shape and have a great time at Zumba at Commonpoint Queens! We currently offer an hour long class every Monday from 6:15 to 7:15 PM. Zumba is one of the fastest growing and most popular exercise options in the country, and our classes in the past have been wildly popular. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, they’re getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! CPR & First Aid Certification
The Physical Education & Recreation Department has staff that are Red Cross certified instructors in first aid, CPR, defibrillator and Epi pen (toddler/infant, community, professional rescuer, etc.). Lifeguard & WSI Certification at the Bay Terrace Center
The Bay Terrace Center has staff that are Red Cross certified instructors in Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instruction. Physical Education Consultations
Our certified staff will come to you to supervise and teach programs geared to your clientele. We can add professional classes in exercise, fitness training, sports skills and recreational activities to your school, nursing home, business, club.

Walk-ins $10 per session

Chair assisted group exercise focuses on increasing muscular strength, endurance and range of movement to improve activities for daily living. Senior Swim [at the Bay Terrace Center]
The senior swim program is a 3-day per week indoor swim program for seniors only. Open swim time is provided at the Bay Club on Bay Club Drive, Bayside, 9:00 AM -12:00 Noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, during the winter months. Please call Eileen at 718-423-6111 for further information.
SilverSneakers SilverSplash (at the Bay Club)
SilverSplash offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination. Please call Eileen at 718-423-6111 for further information
