When Clients Become Family

HealthandWellness_Newsletter_Fall21

The past year has been a year of transitions for our Health & Wellness programs, but one thing has remained constant – our community has stayed active! From virtual fitness classes for adults and children at the height of the pandemic to outdoor exercise and sports classes in our Central Queens parking lot and Tanenbaum Family Pool to returning to in-person classes in all of our buildings, we have not only managed to keep moving but to grow our community to more than 10,000 participants.

We were able to pivot and grow with the help of our incredible instructors like Jessica Montenora who has been teaching adult fitness classes and youth dance classes for fifteen years. Undeterred by the pandemic, she began teaching her Zumba, Chair Yoga, and Zumba Kids classes virtually, even while pregnant, and resumed teaching almost immediately after giving birth.

“Even while everyone was going through huge life changes, I knew that we needed to keep the engagement going with our members. It was refreshing to see familiar faces and keep a sense of community. The clients become your second family.”

“Now that we’re transitioning back in person, I hope that whoever is comfortable joins us outdoors – our tent set up in the parking lot is the perfect space! And I can’t wait until we can have a dance recital!”
