Not Just a Piece of Paper

Opportunity Youth_Newsletter_Fall21

“I was 18 when I dropped out of high school because my grandmother passed away. It was really tough for me. When I was 24 I didn’t want a diploma. I felt like it was just a paper to me but with the help of my family and Commonpoint staff like Erica and Veronica, they convinced me to keep going to class.

During the pandemic, it was hard for me. My case managers would call me, they’d text me, and even though it was annoying sometimes I knew they wanted the best for me. I got through it, and I went back to classes even though I didn’t want to.

I want to thank Veronica and the case managers I had because you were the ones who pushed me and told me that it’s not just a piece of paper, it’s something that you need in life to succeed. I feel proud of myself, I didn’t think I could get my diploma at this age, and when I did, it felt great.”

Congratulations to the Opportunity Youth Graduating Class of Spring 2021!
