Overview

The Beacon Programs are school-based Community Centers, funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Beacon programs operate during after school hours, weeknights, weekends, and during summer vacation and school holidays, providing a wide range of services and activities for children and their families as well as classes for adults of all ages. Staff consists of a full time program director as well as Outreach Coordinator with part-time professional and paraprofessional youth workers, instructors and teachers. Beacon Program activities vary from site to site but may include Basketball, Tae Kwon Do, Individual and Family Counseling, Vocational and School to Work programs, Dance, Drama, Chess, Computer, Homework Club, Academic Tutorials, Youth Councils, Tennis, Video Production and Adult Programs such as Computers, Stress Reduction, Parent Support Groups, as part of a comprehensive menu of activities for all ages and interests.
