Overview

We are excited to announce the opening of our Youth Sports and Dance classes for Spring from Tuesday, April 2 through Friday, June 21, 2024! ! Our dynamic instructors will guide your child to reach their full potential through engaging and age-appropriate sports curriculum. Registration begins March 1st – space is limited!

Spring 2024 Sports and Dance:

NEW! Youth Ultimate Bootcamp

(Ages 11–15)

We are excited to offer a specialized health, fitness and agility training class for older kids to help them develop strength and endurance – whether for the sports they play or for general wellness. Students will learn proper techniques for age-appropriate exercises including stretching, body-weight exercises and more.

NEW! Cheerleading

(Ages 8–11)

Cheerleading is a fun and energetic activity that promotes teamwork, physical fitness, and self-confidence. Through our new cheerleading program, students will learn the fundamentals of cheerleading including tumbling, jumps, kicks, cheers and more! No cheerleading experience necessary.

*Participants in this class will perform in the Spring 2024 Dance Showcase on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 starting at 11am (date and time subject to change). Students participating in the 2024 Dance Showcase will be required to submit a $30 cheerleading uniform fee. 

Advanced tickets for the show will cost $25 per ticket group (includes admission for up to 4 family members).  Additional individual tickets are $10 each.  Seat assignments will be given out via email 2 weeks before the showcase. 

Individual tickets purchased on the day of the show are $15 each, cash ONLY.

Gymnastics Tumbling and Fitness

(Ages 4–11)

Students learn and practice level-appropriate gymnastics skills like tumbling, balance, and agility exercises to build technique while having fun. Classes are designed to incorporate use of gymnastics apparatus such as the vault, balance beam and our Air Tumble Track tumble mat.

Triple Play

(Age 4 years)

Why choose one sport when you can enjoy three? Triple Play introduces children to the fundamentals of soccer, basketball and baseball. While using child-sized equipment, instructors use mini-game play situations and drills to develop understanding of each sport. Children will explore each sport for a few weeks at a time before moving on to the next sport.

Soccer Skills Clinic

(Ages 4–11)

Our experienced and enthusiastic soccer coaches teach children the fundamentals of soccer – from balancing and kicking to coordination and agility. Children work on skills, game play and having a positive team experience.

Coach Joon leads this clinic is designed to teach the fundamentals of tennis for the novice as well as seasoned players.

Jr. NBA Basketball Skills Clinics

These clinics are designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball for all players. The main focus of the clinic is conditioning, skill-specific drills, and scrimmage games. Sportsmanship, defense/offense, footwork, and strategy will also be included. Classes are co-ed.

Jr. NBA Western Basketball League

(Ages 12–14)

For 16 sessions starting April 7th, players will alternate training days and game days, culminating in a championship game on Tuesday, June 18.

Games will be refereed by a professional officiate. Players uniform shirts will need to be purchased separately ($30). *Please note:  Specific requests for a team, coach or practice time are considered but not guaranteed.

For 18 sessions starting April 7, players will alternate training days and game days, culminating in a championship game on Thursday, June 20.

Elite Basketball Training

(Ages 11–18)

A program to support and enhance the performance of competitive athletes. The main focus of Commonpoint Elite training is conditioning and skill-specific drills using specialized equipment including our shooting machine, Vertimax.

Dance

*Students participating in the 2024 Dance Showcase will be required to submit $85 in fees for the purchase of performance-quality dance costumes.

Introduction to the fundamentals and techniques of classical ballet. It’s never to late to learn to dance!

The foundation of all dance. Body placement and alignment in ballet are the most important elements for every dancer in attaining balance, control, form, strength, and a beautiful line. Dancers will achieve this through barre and center floor work.

Dance – Ballet Level II (Registration Closed)

This class requires previous dance experience. New students will need to attend a placement class prior to registering. This class incorporates an intense ballet-based warm-up, barre work, across the floor, as well as center exercises. Students will learn ballet technique and focus on proper placement and turn out. They will improve their flexibility, coordination, and endurance. Students will also learn choreography and prepare for our June dance recital.

In Modern Fusion you will explore and practice contemporary and modern dance techniques. The classes focus on musicality, spatial awareness, mobility and dynamic movements to build a strong modern dance foundation. The classes start with a warm up, followed by traditional dance exercises, our weekly choreography and a cool down to end.

Ms. Jessica is back creating fun and motivating dances designed just for kids using the Zumba concept and hip-hop. Children learn fitness dances, play fun motivational games and learn new rhythms and styles of music and culture.

Share in delight as your child climbs, balances, rolls, swings in our spacious indoor play space. The program is an open play format with each session ending with a culminating activity such as parachute, songs and bubbles.

  • The Central Queens facility is located at 67-09 108th Street, Forest Hills, NY 11375. For all Central Queens sports classes, please drop off and pick up at the gymnasium entrance on the ground floor. For all Central Queens dance classes, please drop off and pick up on the 4th Floor Dance Studio.
  • For security purposes, all Youth Sports & Dance Classes are “drop-off” only. Parents/Caregivers are not allowed to stay during class time.
  • All classes take place once a week and will be held indoors. For all sports classes, please wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. For all dance classes, dress requirements will be communicated before the semester begins.
  • Free on-street parking is available around the facility.
  • 7 Week class is $140 members / $175 non-members
  • 8 Week class is $160 members / $200 non-members
  • 9 Week class is $180 members / $225 non-members
  • 10 Week class is $200 members / $250 non-members
  • 11 Week class is $220 members / $275 non-members
  • Member prices are applicable for youth who are currently enrolled in a Commonpoint Queens Early Childhood, Camp, or After School program (20% per child on each of their registrations – please use the code MEMDIS@CQ) or have a family membership at Commonpoint Queens (discount should be automatically applied). We also offer a 5% Sibling Discount (5% per child on each of their registrations – please use the code SIBDIS@CQ). Insurance is included in the fee. Discounts must be applied in the shopping cart before you pay.
  • Before the first class is held, 100% refund minus $20 administrative fee.
  • After the first class is held, 90% refund of the remaining unused portion minus $20 administrative fee.
  • After 2nd class is held, a 50% refund of the remaining unused portion minus $20 administrative fee.
  • No refunds or credits after the 3rd class is held.
  • Should you choose to take a Commonpoint Queens credit, the administrative fee will be waived. 
  • All refund requests must be submitted in writing to HFRefund@commonpointqueens.org.

Each participant is entitled to one make-up per semester for a class missed due to illness.

To request a make-up class, please send an email to hfdesk@commonpointqueens.org and include a doctor’s note related to the absence.

Please note, since some classes are held only one time per week, we may try to accommodate a make-up request by offering a spot in a different sports or dance class during the current semester.
