Overview

We are excited to announce the opening of our Youth Sports and Dance classes for Spring from Tuesday, April 2 through Friday, June 21, 2024! ! Our dynamic instructors will guide your child to reach their full potential through engaging and age-appropriate sports curriculum. Registration begins March 1st – space is limited!

Dance at Central Queens:

*Please note: Registration for this class includes both the Winter and Spring 2024 sessions, culminating in the Spring 2024 Dance Showcase on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 starting at 11am (date and time subject to change). Registration for the majority of dance classes is closed at this time unless otherwise noted.

*Students participating in the 2024 Dance Showcase will be required to submit $85 in fees for the purchase of performance-quality dance costumes. 

Advanced tickets for the show will cost $25 per ticket group (includes admission for up to 4 family members).  Additional individual tickets are $10 each.  Seat assignments will be given out via email 2 weeks before the showcase. 

Individual tickets purchased on the day of the show are $15 each, cash ONLY.

NEW! Adult Ballet (Registration Open)

Introduction to the fundamentals and techniques of classical ballet. It’s never to late to learn to dance!

Leotard & tights with ballet slippers required, Ballet skirt and/or tutu is optional.

Dance – Pre-Ballet/Ballet (Registration Closed)

(Ages 4–11)

The foundation of all dance. Body placement and alignment in ballet are the most important elements for every dancer in attaining balance, control, form, strength, and a beautiful line. Dancers will achieve this through barre and center floor work.

Leotard & tights with ballet slippers required, Ballet skirt and/or tutu is optional.

* If your child is enrolled in a Commonpoint Queens nursery program and is not registered for an enrichment or late stay program, please be advised that a caregiver will need to drop off the child at the gymnasium at 3:00 p.m.

Dance – Ballet Level II (Registration Closed)

This class requires previous dance experience. New students will need to attend a placement class prior to registering. This class incorporates an intense ballet-based warm-up, barre work, across the floor, as well as center exercises. Students will learn ballet technique and focus on proper placement and turn out. They will improve their flexibility, coordination, and endurance. Students will also learn choreography and prepare for our June dance recital.

Dance – Modern Fusion (Registration Closed)

(Ages 10–14)

In Modern Fusion you will explore and practice contemporary and modern dance techniques. The classes focus on musicality, spatial awareness, mobility and dynamic movements to build a strong modern dance foundation. The classes start with a warm up, followed by traditional dance exercises, our weekly choreography and a cool down to end.

This dance based class incorporates ballet, modern, and jazz techniques along with your child’s imagination.

Dance – Zumba Kids (Registration Closed)

(Ages 4–11)

Ms. Jessica is back creating fun and motivating dances designed just for kids using the Zumba concept and hip-hop. Children learn fitness dances, play fun motivational games and learn new rhythms and styles of music and culture.

  • The Central Queens facility is located at 67-09 108th Street, Forest Hills, NY 11375. For all Central Queens sports classes, please drop off and pick up at the gymnasium entrance on the ground floor. For all Central Queens dance classes, please drop off and pick up on the 4th Floor Dance Studio.
  • The Sam Field Center Gymnasium is located at 58-20 Little Neck Pkwy, Little Neck NY 11362. For all Sam Field dance classes, please drop off and pick up at the front door. 
  • For security purposes, all Youth Sports & Dance Classes are “drop-off” only. Parents/Caregivers are not allowed to stay during class time.
  • All classes take place once a week and will be held indoors.  For all dance classes, dress requirements will be communicated before the semester begins.
  • Free on-street parking is available around the facility.
  • Member prices are applicable for youth who are currently enrolled in a Commonpoint Queens Early Childhood, Camp, or After School program (20% per child on each of their registrations – please use the code MEMDIS@CQ or MEMDIS@SFC) or have a family membership at Commonpoint Queens (discount should be automatically applied). We also offer a 5% Sibling Discount (5% per child on each of their registrations – please use the code SIBDIS@CQ or SIBDIS@SFC). Insurance is included in the fee. Discounts must be applied in the shopping cart before you pay.
  • Before the first class is held, 100% refund minus $20 administrative fee.
  • After the first class is held, 90% refund of the remaining unused portion minus $20 administrative fee.
  • After 2nd class is held, a 50% refund of the remaining unused portion minus $20 administrative fee.
  • No refunds or credits after the 3rd class is held.
  • Should you choose to take a Commonpoint Queens credit, the administrative fee will be waived. 
  • All refund requests must be submitted in writing to HFRefund@commonpointqueens.org.

Each participant is entitled to one make-up per semester for a class missed due to illness.

To request a make-up class, please send an email to hfdesk@commonpointqueens.org and include a doctor’s note related to the absence.

Please note, since some classes are held only one time per week, we may try to accommodate a make-up request by offering a spot in a different sports or dance class during the current semester.
